Getting Started

Pre-race

  • Read the Rules & Regulations, this is critically important.
  • Purchase and install Codemasters F1 2014 (in Steam).
  • Load the game, setup your controller and complete the driver training.
  • Run at least one 25% quick race, to get a feel of how the F1 cars drive and gain an understanding of how pit stops work.
  • Download and install TeamSpeak 3, more details can be found here.

Race night

  • Before loading F1 2014, make sure your wheel / controller is plugged in and powered on. Otherwise you may find that all your controller settings have been reset.
  • Load TeamSpeak 3 and connect to the server. From here you should be able to chat with everyone before the server is created.
  • Load up Steam and make sure you're online and visible in the friends list by 7:20pm. You will then receive and invite to join the game lobby.

General racing tips

  • ERS
    • What does it stand for?

      Energy Recovery System
    • What does it do?
Gives you a 120kW power boost for up to 33 seconds a lap, reset each time you cross the start finish line. By Comparison, ERS can produce twice the power of KERS and lasts over 5 times longer per lap.
  • Tyres
    • Primes
      • Colours: Yellow (soft), White (medium), Orange (hard)
      • Sets: 4
      • Details: This is the tyre you will spend most of the race on. It's a harder compound than the options and has less grip, but it will last a lot longer.
    • Options
      • Colours: Red (super soft), Yellow (soft), White (medium)
      • Sets: 4
      • Details: If you qualify in the top ten, this will most likely be your starting tyre. It has more grip than the primes, but it will wear out much sooner. It's also a great tyre for setting your fastest lap.
    • Intermediates
      • Colour: Green
      • Sets: 4
      • Details: If it's raining and you start to see spray coming off of your tyres, it's probably time to put these on. Otherwise stick to primes or options.
    • Wets
      • Colour: Blue
      • Sets: 3
      • Details: Only for use in really wet conditions.
  • Brake bias
    • <coming soon>
  • Pit exit
    • When leaving the pits, make sure you don't cross the white line, otherwise you'll be given a drive through penalty.
  • Blue flags
    • If you receive a blue flag alert, it means that a faster car is close behind, probably trying to lap you. Allowing this person through won't cost you position, but if you ignore the blue flag message for too long, you'll be given a drive through penalty. Probably best to pull out of the way as soon as it is safe to do so.
